Bettie was born in Nashville, Tennessee on April 22^nd, 1923, the oldest girl in a family of six children... three girls and three boys.

The following is from Dave Stevens' interview with Bettie, available on CD:

“...I was almost born in a movie theater.  My mother had labor pains when the show was over at eleven o’clock, and my father had to rush her to the hospital.  And I think that’s the reason I’ve been such a movie fan and crazy about the movies all of my life, because I was almost born in a movie house!”
